I was never one of those women who could identify house plants on sight and speak about soil with confidence.
I appreciated them, of course, but from the sidelines. Then my sister-in-law became obsessed with them at some point (that along with aquascaping).
My friend here in Tetouan decorated her home and office with them so beautifully that I started to feel like perhaps I, too, could become an elegant plant lady.
That experiment began with a gifted plant from said friend. It ended with a droopy, soggy tragedy. The poor thing slumped, rotted, and returned to the earth far sooner than anyone had hoped.
A humbling experience, really. It taught me that house plants are lovely, but they do expect a certain level of competence.
If you’re a plantaholic, or you’ve recently decided your home deserves a bit more chlorophyll, let me show you where to find plants in Tetouan.
Where to buy house plants in Tetouan
The place I visited is Plants Hiba / Plantas Hiba located near Tetouan city centre. It’s near Hassan II road. Not far from the yellow church by the roundabout.
If you’re walking, you do have to climb down the stairs to get to the right road.
But who am I to instruct? I’m the last person you want to ask about directions. Anyways, here you go – the pin.

The entrance is a bit misleading. It looks like a very cramped shop from the outside.
However, from the moment you walk in, it’s a whole jungle of house plants.
You’re greeted by rows of greenery, pots, and an enthusiastic shopkeeper who is also the plants’ carer and, without a doubt, an expert.

There were plenty of house plants to choose from, from smaller ones for shelves and corners to larger plants for people who like their decor to make a statement.

I also appreciated that the place felt pleasant to browse.

Final thoughts
I should mention that there’s another shop right next door called Pépinière Chellal.
Looking back, I’m still not entirely sure which one was which. One thing you quickly notice about Moroccan businesses is that they do seem to enjoy setting up beside someone selling almost exactly the same thing.
If you’re looking for where to buy house plants in Tetouan, these two are lovely spots to check out. It’s easy to browse, full of beautiful options, and dangerous in the way all good plant shops are.
I came home with two small succulents, full of hope and mild delusion. One has since died, and the other is still going, although I suspect we are in the final chapter.
I also picked up some affordable soil from the plant lady, and I’m using it now for a little spring seed sowing.
